Like the rest of the world during the coronavirus pandemic, our schedule has been affected by the crisis with concerts of Michael's music and recording sessions postponed. We've been using the time to catch up on post-production, have taken on projects which Michael didn't produce for editing and mixing. Michael finished post-production on Jae-hyuck Cho's Rachmaninoff Concertos 2 and 3 with Hans Graf and the Russian National Orchestra and Russian Trumpet Concertos with Paul Merkelo, also with Maestro Graf and the RNO. Michael also finished the editing and mixing of the Shostakovich 10th Symphony with Roberto Beltran-Zavala conducting the Orquesta Sinfónica de la Universidad de Guanajuato. Of course, Michael is busily composing: a concerto for Two Cellos for Nikolai Shugaev and Willem Stam, a trio for clarinetist Romie DeGuise Langlois, cellist Dmitri Atapine, and pianist Hyeyeon Park to be recorded on a program of music by living American composers, and a Trumpet Concerto. We've been gratified by the positive critical response to 'Five for Five' - Wind Quintets by Michael Fine - released by Evidence Classics late last year.
Saint-Saens in Soissons. Our first post-lockdown recording sessions were held at the Cite de la Musique in Soissons: Saint-Saens Chamber Music for Warners with violinist Renaud Capuçon, cellist Edgar Moreau, and pianist Bertrand Chamayou, the same ensemble that participated in the award winning recording of Debussy's chamber music. Michael Fine produced the recording with engineer Erdo Groot. The recording is now in post-production.
SONY Classical released our recording 'Arias for Josepha with soprano Sarah Trabuel, the PKF Prague Philharmonia conducted by Jochen Rieder. Mozart‘s sister-in-law – and his first Queen of the Night. In her debut album, Mannheim-born soprano Sarah Traubel pays tribute to a legend of the high notes, with a recording of works originally written for and performed by Josepha‘s stunning coloratura voice. Includes several world premieres on disc. Michael Fine produced the recording at Prague Crossroads-St Anne's with engineer Jakub Hadraba. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zx7eLgII5jI
Michael traveled to Paris to record 'Emotions', Gautier Capuçon's sequel to the highly successful Warners recording 'Intuitions.' Like that album, it features short works and arrangements of pieces not necessarily associated with the cello from a broad spectrum of composers of both classical and popular music. Adrien Perruchon conducted the Orchestre de Chambre de Paris at the studio of the Philharmonie de Paris. Pianist Jérôme Ducros performed on the album and also contributed most of the arrangements. Michael produced the recording with engineer Jin Choi.
